Rooftop retreat
Sarasota, Florida

This project spans two levels of rooftop living space on Golden Gate Point, looking out over Sarasota Bay and the Ringling Causeway. The goal was to treat the rooftop as a true extension of the home rather than a furnished terrace, with interior architecture, lighting, and furniture designed to work together in an outdoor setting.

Architectural lighting and custom millwork give the spaces structure and carry them from day into evening, so the rooftop is as usable after sunset as it is in full sun. The furniture takes a more playful, artistic direction than the interiors below. Sculptural black wire lounge chairs with woven cream cushions sit around an organic, fluted coffee table with a dark stone top, while a sofa upholstered in a bold graphic stripe of chartreuse, charcoal, and white anchors the seating. Hand-tufted pillows in orange and black add texture and a point of color, and cordless lamps and woven lanterns provide soft, movable light at table height.

The palette pulls from the setting: greens that echo the water, warm neutrals, and graphic black accents that hold their own against the open sky.
