Art Deco after Dark
Pinecrest Miami, Florida
This Pinecrest home already had good bones, so the work focuses on targeted interior architecture rather than a full renovation. The goal is to give the main living spaces more character and a stronger sense of arrival through a few well detailed custom elements.
The family room off the foyer is the centerpiece. Designs by Human is introducing custom lacquered wood paneling to wrap the room, adding depth, sheen, and a tailored architectural finish visible from the entry. The lacquer finish reflects light differently through the day and gives the wood a durability well suited to South Florida’s humidity and everyday family use.
A new bar extends from the paneling and shares its material language, with coordinating finishes that tie it back to the room. Contrast is introduced deliberately through the bar’s surfaces and detailing, so it reads as a focal point within the paneled room rather than a separate piece of furniture.
The approach shows how a small number of custom millwork elements, designed and detailed in house, can change how an entire home is experienced without major construction.
